2012-2013 Season Concert Schedule

The Carolina Youth Symphony will perform 7 concerts during the 2012-2013 concert season. This is the 57th music season for our organization and the 5th season to include a performance at New York City's Carnegie Hall.

Lakeside Concert - All Orchestras Combined - May 30, 2013 - 7:30 pm

The Carolina Youth Symphony performs at 7:30 on Thursday, May 30th at Furman University's Lakeside Amphitheater as part of the Furman University Lakeside Concert Series. Dr. Leslie W. Hicken, Mr. James Kilgus and Mrs. Ginger Greer, Conducting.

This is our final concert of the 2012-2013 season.

Past Events of the 2012-2013 Season

Summer Camp Concert - All Orchestras - August 12, 2012 - Leslie W. Hicken, James Kilgus and Ginger Greer, Conducting - The Carolina Youth Symphony performed at the YMCA's Camp Greenville Airnaisium as the closing event of CYS Summer Camp. After a weekend of camp activities and rehearsals, our orchestras performed together for the first time in the new season.

Peace Center Concert - All Orchestras - October 21, 2012 - The Carolina Youth Symphony performed at the Peace Center Concert Hall on Sunday, October 21st. Special guest artist and CYS Alum, Dr. James Stokes, professor of Trumpet at Appalachian State University, performed Oskar Boehme's Trumpet Concerto in F. The Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Leslie W. Hicken, performed selections by Saint-Saëns, Faure and Borodin. The Concert Orchestra conducted by Mr. James Kilgus and the Repertory Orchestra conducted by Mrs. Ginger Greer, were also featured.

Holiday Concert - All Orchestras - December 9, 2012 - The Carolina Youth Symphony performed at McAlister Auditorium, Furman University on Sunday, December 9th. Conducting: Mr. James Kilgus, Symphony Orchestra; Mark Britt, Concert Orchestra; Mrs. Ginger Greer, Repertory Orchestra. Featured works by Anderson, Cacavas, Cerulli, Krogstad and Tchaikovsky.

Winter Concert - SO and CO - March 3, 2013 - The Carolina Youth Symphony performed at McAlister Auditorium, Furman University on Sunday, March 3rd. Special guest musicians from the Greenville Symphony Orchestra performed alongside Carolina Youth Symphony musicians in our 2nd Annual Side-by-Side Concert Event. Also featured were performances by the winners of the 26th Annual Young Artists Concerto Competition - Judith Lin, Piano and Jake Fowler, Bassoon. Conducting: Dr. Leslie W. Hicken, Symphony Orchestra; Mr. James Kilgus, Concert Orchestra.

Carnegie Hall Concert - SO - March 31, 2013 - The Symphony Orchestra conducted by Dr. Leslie W. Hicken peformed at historic Carnegie Hall.

Spring Concert - CO and RO - May 12, 2013 - The Concert Orchestra conducted by Mr. James Kilgus and the Repertory Orchestra conducted by Mrs. Ginger Greer performed at McAlister Auditorium, Furman University.

Senior Honors Concert - Symphony Orchestra - May 12, 2013 - The Symphony Orchestra conducted by Dr. Hugh Floyd and James Kilgus performed at McAlister Auditorium, Furman University. Featured Senior soloists: Reagan Bachour, violin; Amanda Burth, cello; Shannon Elliott, viola; Lydia Porter, clarinet.
